The Higonokami knife is a traditional and historic Japanese friction folding pocket knife that first appear over 130 years ago in 1896. After the Samurai class was abolished in the late 1800s there was no longer a demand for swordsmiths to make their famous Katana swords. The highly skilled blacksmiths had to find other products to make and so the Higonokami knife was born.
It gained extreme popularity in Japan’s working-class and was even carried by school children for sharpening pencils. It has since become an iconic and protected Japanese product. Temple Tool Company is proud to partner with the historic fifth-generation Nagao Kanekoma makers of Higonokami to create our own signature premium Damascus blade version of this timeless knife.
