This 5-piece set of chisels is known as Oire Nomi in Japanese. The Oire Nomi is a type of bench chisel designed for general purpose woodworking. Good for chopping mortises, dovetails, pairing work, and any other general purpose chisel work.

These chisels are hand forged in Japan by master blacksmiths. The hard White Paper #2 steel cutting edge is laminated to a softer Damascus top and tang. Laminating two types of steel is a signature Japanese method that goes back to the Samurai and famous Katana Swords. This method allows the use of super hard steel at the cutting edge but keeps the chisel tough and non-brittle by strengthening the tang with mild steel.

An Ebony handle is connected to the blade with both a ferrule and integral tang which is why Japanese chisels are the strongest out there and with the hoop at the end of the handle allows the user to strike the chisel with a metal hammer called a Genno.

Japanese chisels are handmade and each chisel is unique and has slight variations from each other. These chisels designed for intermediate and advanced woodworkers and craftsman and require the end user to finish setting up the chisel which includes setting the hoop and preparing and sharpening the cutting edge.
