Large crosscut Japanese timber framing pull saw. Bent handle for aggressive cutting. Progressive TPI. For timber framing, pruning tree branches, bushcraft, cutting small to medium logs. For green, soft, or hard wood.
The Traditional Japanese Temagari Saw is a robust and aggressive crosscut pull saw originally designed for felling small trees and efficiently cutting logs into manageable pieces. We have adapted this classic design to excel in timber framing and post-and-beam construction, making it an essential tool for any Timber Framer.
Drawing inspiration from the renowned Maebiki whale saw, known for its tall, whale-shaped blade designed for ripping logs into boards, this saw features a narrower blade filled with crosscut teeth making it much easier to handle and control. This crucial attribute allows for precise cutting along your layout lines when timber framing, as well as taking into the field for pruning trees or bucking logs.
The saw`s expertly crafted crosscut teeth are specifically designed for cutting through green or wet wood, ideal for timber framing and pruning tasks. The teeth become progressively more aggressive from the handle to the end of the blade. This allows users to easily initiate cuts near the handle and accelerate through the material with greater efficiency with full length cutting strokes. Made from high-grade SK85 Japanese tool steel, the blade measures 390mm (15.3”) in length with impulse hardened teeth for long-term sharpness and durability.
The handle, crafted from Japanese Wingnut wood and stained a rich dark brown, is accented with natural rattan wraps for enhanced comfort and grip. The handle's 30-degree bend creates a fulcrum point, allowing the user to apply more force to the teeth for faster cuts.

This saw is amazing, it absolutely romps through wood! I enjoy both Western push saws and Japanese pull saws, but this saw has reminded me that pull cutting is excellent for timber framing, especially with the angled handle.
This saw is a handsaw, not a magic wand, and it cuts so fast that you can make mistakes fast if you are not closely supervising it and using good strategy, especially on 45° cuts. I do wish Temple Tools would make a non-impulse hardened, fillable heirloom saw -- but this saw is so good and will stay sharp so long, that if you timber frame you should get it even if you prefer resharpenable tools. You can join me in ~5 years in trying to sharpen it with diamond files!
Great so far
Great saw. Very sharp, nicely made. I’ve tried a few different brands, and this is by far the best, ive come across with and affordable price.
