I like Japanese style marking gauges and have a need for mortise gauges quite often. My former mortise gauge was hard to adjust, and gave inconsistent marking grooves so I wanted something better. This is in the right price range and works really well right from the start. I did do an initial sharpening of the blades before starting, but not sure this was really necessary. Good quality for the money and a whole lot better than the E-bay version I had before. Test cuts made after layout with this tool are accurate, plus it's easy to set up.
