Kataba saws can come in a wide variety of shapes, tooth grinds (for Rip or Crosscutting), different TPI, and lengths for a wide variety of tasks. This premium folding Kataba is outfitted with our signature “Demon-Tooth” blade which has a combination of crosscut and rip-teeth. At the base of the blade is a longer “starter” row of crosscut teeth, followed by a deep gullet and single rip tooth. This pattern of crosscut teeth, deep gullet, and single rip teeth then repeats down the length of the blade.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003e“Oni-Ba” which means “Demon-Tooth” in Japanese comes from the fierce demon masks that the Samurai wore into battle. The single rip teeth at the back of the deep gullets resemble those aggressive looking demon teeth on the “Oni” mask, hence the name “demon-tooth” blade. This blade type used to be commonly handmade but is very difficult to manufacture. However, Temple Tool has been able to recreate this incredible blade with perfection.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThe size, TPI, and combination teeth make this saw a great general-purpose saw for dimensioning stock and cutting medium to large joinery. The Kataba is similar to the Double-Edge Ryoba in that it excels in a wide range of general purpose tasks. However, the Kataba is preferred over the Ryoba by some craftsman who make many deep cuts into and through wood. The Kataba, only having one cutting edge doesn’t run the risk of binding in the kerf like a Ryoba saw might experience due to its two cutting edges.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThe blade is made of premium SK85 Japanese tool steel and the teeth are impulse hardened for extreme sharpness and durability. The blade is easily replaceable.
